An Hockey Association styled as “ Mysore State Hockey Association” was formed in the year 1937. Mr. Green and Mr. C.I. Reynolds were the first President and Secretary respectively of the Association. Both of them were Anglo Indians and senior officers in the British ruled state. Bangalore City was once considered as the pensioner paradise because of its salubrious climate and that was just not enough, it was also then called as “ Hockey Paradise”. Much credit for getting such a name should go to the Anglo Indians who lived in large numbers in the cantonment area of BANGALORE and played the game of hockey with much enthusiasm and enjoyed themselves.
The sport was a favorite past time for them. Britishers who ruled the country prior to independence introduced this lovely sport as a part of recreation amongst the defence and police units. What was started as a recreation then, gradually turned into a competitive sport. This led to emergence of several hockey teams from Auxiliary Force, Defence Units, State Police, Railways, Public Sector Units and others. Almost all the hockey teams had their own hockey grounds. The Sulivan police hockey ground, BRV Ground on Cubbon Road , RSI Ground on M.G. Road were the main competitive venues. As number of hockey teams grew and it became necessary for a formal formation of sports body. For several years, in the initial period,
This sport body was predominantly run by the Anglo Indians. However, after the independence, Indians took the control and managed the Association.
The name of the Association was changed to – Karnataka State Hockey Association by virtue of State Government notification in 1970's.
